Welcome to 2006-7 Meadows Library Media Aides
This year, you will write at least one paragraph every night that you had a Library Media Aide class during the day. The purpose for this assignment is to strengthen your descriptive writing skills and provide a record for yourself, your parents and for me about what you do each day during this class. I prefer 3 paragraphs of well-written, correctly spelled descriptive record of what you did during your Library Media Aide class. This blog participation is one rubric for this class. The more that you write the higher your grade will be in the class.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 400 of 415 Newer› Newest»Last time in media aide I used the hand scan. It shows the books are being used but not checked out.The 6th grade does country reports and so those books can not be checked out. But the hand scan keeps a list that shows their being used so that the school doesn't get rid of them.
Last time we did the same thing as before but we also got the peer tutor class. When ever they come in we check in their old books and check out the new books.
P.S. If you need to know more see my blog before this one about the hand scan.
Today in media aide we put the barcode lables on the books. We also blogged for today and the last two times.
(11-6-06 and 11-8-06)
I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t had any time to blog. Well, the last two times Katie and I Have been in here we’ve scanned books. The books that we scanned were the books on the rack, also known as the 6th grade country books. We also checked in and checked out books for Mrs. James class.
(11-13-06)
Today in Media Aide Katie and I are placing bar code labels on the appropriate book.
Another great day in Media Aide.
Today in media aide since you weren't there we first shelved a few books. Next I straightened out the chairs and cleaned up a bit. Then I organized the country report books. Now since there is a subsitute we got to go on the computer. See you next time!!
YOur student,
Jacqueline
In media aide we helped put away books on the cart. After we helped straighten up the library and clean up the tables. Once we were done we got to go on the computer.
Today we reshelfed books and because there was a sub we just went on the compute and that is about it.
-Elizabet
The first activity that we worked on was to put the laminated covers on some books. Then we catalouged for the rest of the period.
Ms.Roof went to a meeting. I trashed out the last bit old catalogs, and alphabetized some biography books. For the rest of the day we just fouled around. We tried to unscramble some words and play with puzzles.

Today in Media Aide Katie and I reshelved the country books for the 6th grade book reports. Hope the shelf stays neat and titty for Mrs.Roof.
11/9/06
Last week on Thursday,I helped Mrs.Roof catalog some books in and help her with some difficulties we had.It took awhile, but we got through it. That was all I had to do that day.
11/14/06
On Tuesday,in media aide there was a sub, which was Mrs.Dubin, and all I did was help her check books in and out to students and I also checked in some books, magnitized them, and set off the alarm thing. And that was all I had to do that day.
Today in the media center, there was another sub which was Mrs.Dubin. I didn't really have to do anything because the students in the library were doing country reports and they didn't need to check out. So, for the rest of the period,Mrs.Dubin let me go onto the computer to blog.
Today we started to straighten out shelves which looked bad and had books in random order or in wrong places. It was pretty bad. I think Ms.Roof should start telling students to use place markers when they pull out a book from the shelf. Then if they want to check it out they can remove the stick and put in a bin or something. If the by accident have there place marker fall, find a stray book, or didn’t use a stick at all the must put the book in a place where the media aides can later give it an interest point and put it back on the shelf.
-November 16, 2006
Today in Media Aide Katie and I did nothing. We did not respect Mrs.Roof and her class, so next time I'm gong to work extra hard to earn her respect back. :(
I would like to orginize my favorites aphabetically
Today in Media Aid we gave out overdue notes to the teachers by putting it in their mailbox. We started by printing and cutting out the notes. If there is an overdue book before November then we write a note saying they must see the librarian. We grouped all the slips by homeroom teachers and put them in their mail box. Their mailboxes are next to the library. There is a door to get there and it is labeled “Teachers Research Room.”
Today we put in shelfing and organized books

I haven’t blogged in like three classes of Media Aide.
I’m going to sort it out in days.
11-25-06…I was flying solo once again, Katie was absent. Well I checked in and out books for a 7th grade class. It was great to have a different class the Ms. James’s. I also played around on the smart board; I made a really cool smiley picture.
11-27-06…I was flying solo; Katie seems to be gone quite a bit. Well I checked in and checked out books for Mrs. James class. I also1 put the metal stripes in books so that the alarm would go off when the book was checked out.
11-29-06…Finally, Katie showed up! I scanned country book, while Katie cataloged. Then I helped catalog books we got a whole bunch done!
Last time in media aide, we did overdues and put them in the teacher’s mailboxes. A class also came in to work on their country projects. Before all of this, we checked in the books that were there.
Last time in media we first checked in the books. Then we put the spines in a lot of the books for the rest of the time. There was a perosn there watching us do everything.
Last time in media aide Mrs. Dubin was there and we made sure the books on the library shelves looked neat and good.
Thursday in media I barcoded a couple of books. When you barcode a book, you scan a barcode on a piece of paper. Then you do what ever the computer tells you to do, you are doing this so the book can be put into the library. Then we put some labels on a couple of books.
12/04/06
Today in Media Aide we checked-in books. Then we shelved the books waiting to be shelved in both the fiction and the non-fiction areas. For the last ten minutes we got to start blogging on the copmuters.

Today in media there were no books to check in. I did over dues. First you have to cut the papers in half. Then you go through each over due If the book/s were over due from August to November, you had to write, "Please see librarian." Then I cataloged a couple of books.
Today in the library,I re-typed powerpoints. It was assembly day, but I chose not to go because I had a lot to do. So after I did that I checked in some books, magnitized them and checked if they set off the alarm or not. I put the books on their carts and I didn't have time to do anything else because it was 9:15 and I had to go to my second period.
I slacked off with my blogging, and I am going to write about what I did in the last 4 days of media aid. In these four days I got books from boxes almost going to the shelves.
11/27/06: I was cataloging books, doing ISBN’s and so forth which I described on November 7.
11/29/06: This is when things get interesting. The books which I catalogued and put into the system know were now getting laminated covers. To do this you first, get a length of lamination sheet and cut a length suitable for the book. It will have to go one square inside the book in the cover, wrap around the spine and back cover, and extend the next square. Next, cut the corners of the laminated sheet which doesn’t get covered up if the covers were to be stretched vertically and horizontally. Then cut the sheet which extends from the spine to the spine. Now flatten the sheet and remove the paper, that will expose the glue, so that one half and a spine is visible. Then place the spine of the book where the spine is supposed to go. Then let the book cover fall gently onto the sticky laminated exposed side, and press firmly. Make sure there are no air bubbles. The strips of lamination sticking out of the cover get folded to the other side of the folder. Now peel off the rest of the paper and let the book fall and secure the back cover.
12/1/06: Next, the books laminated got security applied to them by my fellow media aides. Mrs. Roof told me this process is a secret, so I will not post this information. Meanwhile I was pasting barcodes on the top left hand corner.
12/5/06: Now these books are supposed to get spine labels, and get put on the shelves for all I know. Spine labels- that is what we did today. We looked for books which had worn out spine labels and pasted fresh labels on top of it. Then we used tape to laminate it.
Today in media aide, we finished writing, 'Please see librarian' on the overdue notices. Then we started to catalog, but had to stop because of the bell.
12/06/06
Today in Media Aide I worked on the pencil fund. When people buy pencils at the library, the money goes to this fund to help pay bor books and other supplies for the library. I also checked out books for the class that was there at the time.
On Wednesday in media all I did was cataloged books.
In media aide on Wednesday, all we did was cataloge books.
11/27/06
In the library, I did a lot of cataloging and hepled add books.I first typed in the ISBN number and see if the book came up, then I added the title, scanned in the barcode, typed in the call number and purchase price, then added in the sublocation, vendor, and funding source.
11/29/06
Today in the media aide, I also did some cataloging and pretty much did the same thing I did last time.I went on the computer and typed in the ISBN and added the title.
12/1/06
Today I also did some cataloging it was hard at some times because when I scanned in the ISBN number it couldn't find some of the books. But I got used to it and cataloged more books.
12/4/06
Today we found an easier way to get the book and add it.Before we had to type in the whole ISBN number, but we found out that you can just scan it and the system will automatically find it.That really helped us get the book faster.
12/7/06
Yesterday in media aide, I also did some cataloging and did the usual things.I firsted scanned in the ISBN and then clicked on details and then add title, then I scanned in the barcode, then typed in the call number, purchase price, sublocation, vendor, and funding source. And that was all I did that day.
Last time in media aide we first checked in some books, then we put spines in some of the books, then we put book cover on some of the books, then lastly we got the spine labels that say the author's last name inittials and checked to see if whether or not the books needed them.
12/08/06
Today in Media Aide the schools Geography Bee was going on in the library so i just watched it behind the desk. The question were hard.
12/11/06
Today in media aide all I did was the same thing I did the other days. I just went on the computer to catalog books. And that was all I had to do today.
All we did in media was catalog books.
Today we put many books away in the fiction section. Then we taped the planet projects to book holders to put them on display. After that we blogged.
Todsay we shelved books and we put up other people's poster boards
12/12/06
Today in Media Aide I worked on the Power Point, specifically the birthdays, basketball games, and lunches. After that, I returned some of the non-fiction books to the shelves. When that was done, I checked-in some books that needed to be.
Last time in media aide we checked in and out books and then reshelfed them.

In Media Aide today Mrs. Roof and I tried to figure out how to work the program on her computer. We did this the whole time because it was very hard and confusing. In the end, we had to do it manually, which wasn't as bad as I thought.
Today in media aide I tried to catalog some books that couldn't be cataloged before. They were hard to find but we found some of them. And that was all I did today.
today in media aide we first checked in books. then we covered books. i hope that ladie stays with us!

Today in Media Aide I mostly worked on the Power Point for the school TV. I edited birthdays, the lunch menu, and the girls and boys basketball game schedule on there. When that was done I checked in books.
We checked in books, magnetized them and then check to see if they worked.
We found out the genre and then put on genre lables on books.
I think I'm missing some blogs not sure and can't remember what we did can I get credit for blogs?
12/15/06
Today I didn't get to do anything becauseI was in the Spelling Bee.
Today in media aide, I checked in about 30 books. Then, I taped books so the stickers would stay on. It was fun!
Last time in media aide, we put stickers on the books. Then we taped them up so the stickers would stay on. We also organized some atlases in order of the year.
Today in media aide I, got these stickers that say the authors name and FIC on it. I put the stickers on the books if I needed to be replaced. Then I taped them so they would stay on.
Today in media aide I, got these stickers that say the authors name and FIC on it. I put the stickers on the books if I needed to be replaced. Then I taped them so they would stay on.
Today in media aide, we checked in about 35 books. Some of them did not work so we had to put spines in about 6 books. Then we put sticker on the books. After we did that, we taped them so the stickers would stay on.
Another day, we put the covers on the books. Then we catalogued. Some I through away because they were too old to still be there, so we replaced it with the new ones.
I am writing a late blog now for 10/26/2006 and 11/01/2006 hoping to get a late grade. On 10/26/06 we went around with a hand held computer that Mrs. Roof programmed to have it give a tally on a book saying it has been looked over by someone. We go around the library looking books which are lying around or out of place. We tally it and put it back on the shelf. This gives Mrs. Roof an idea of what books kids are interested in, and can purchase books that a lot of students will pick up and read and not a book which will just take space. This is my blog for 11/01/06. Some classes used books for country books. Instead of checking in the books from the main computer; we used the same hand held computer used to tally books only Mrs. Roof programmed it to check-in books. We checked in the books as I remember we did it, but I don’t remember how it got magnetized or whether we filed them.
I am now blogging what I did the past month. On 12/07/2006 and 12/13/2006 we laminated new books. I described how to do this on 12/05/2006. To get there fast you can go to it quickly by pressing Ctrl+F and typing this quote which I have in that blog, “this you first, get a length of lamination sheet and cut a length suitable for the book. It will have to go one square inside the book in the cover, wrap around the spine and back cover, and extend the next square. Next, cut the corners of the laminated sheet which doesn’t get covered up if the covers were to be stretched vertically and horizontally. Then cut the sheet which extends” On 12/11/06 and 12/19/06(today) we had a lot of books to check-in. On 12/11/06 a lot of books came, I think, is because it was a few days after thanksgiving break and many people may finished reading their books, or are returning the books which over due from last month. Today, I think a lot of people came to return a lot of their old books for new ones to read over winter break. A lot of books needed new security systems installed, but the process is a secret. When we finished we stuck genre labels on books in the backroom. We look up the book by ISBN or title at meadows library site, then we stick stickers to the spine above the call number. Then we put tape over it. Finally, on 12/15/06 we added spin labels, but at the beginning of class we filled Arizona State Highways, a series of books made of a collection of magazines, and we filed them by year to a bookshelf in the backroom where all the magazines are.
Today in media aide I did something alittle different. It was kind of like cataloging, but it was a different, longer, and harder process. I first took the book and Mrs. Roof looked at the paper it came with and se just told me what to type in. And as I was doing that Mrs.Roof gave me alittle treat for Christmas!Thank you!!
12/20/06
In Media Aide today I mostly worked on the Pencil Fund and edited numbers on the document. Then I checked-in the magazines and replaced the old ones with new ones. Lastly, I edited Mrs. Roof's calender for when classes come in and when the library is busy.
Today in Media Aide I was flying solo. In media Aide I checked in books and checked out. I also magnatized ALOT of books. I probley magnatized more books then I have this whole year! Well, all I have to say is, another great day in Media Aide. <( - _ -)>
1/4/07
Today in Media Aide I worked on the Power Point Presentation. I edited some dates and happeneings that are going on at the Meadows campus, for example, meeting about RAMMS basketball. I also checked-in magazines and brought the old ones out. Lastly, I started to check-in books and had been turned in.
Today we found book genres most for me were young adult.
i missed some days and blogs not what and how many can I get credit?
last time in media aide we first didn't know what to do sinse you were in a meeting. so, when you came back we started to shelf a bunch of books. then the bell rang and we had to go.
-jacqueline
Today in media aide, I did something a little different. I went on the computer and Mrs. Roof gave me a pile of books to update. I first took the book and scanned in the barcode, then go to title details, and then I had to look if it had any descriptions about the book and if it said what type of book it was, for instance young adult, sci. fiction, adventure, etc. If it didn't have that I would have to edit it and fix it and if it was right then I would just go to update and look at the lists of genres and then finally save it.
today in media aide i got to update a ton of books. and type in if they didn't have notes. i had a lot of fun and would love to do it again!!
-Jacqueline
I am blogging for the last three days in Media Aide: 12/21, 1/5, and 1/9. Also, I checked PowerGrade to find out that I didn’t get a blogging grade for 12/19&12/13/2006. To find that blog just type in the quote, "finished we stuck genre labels on books in the backroom. We look up the book by ISBN or title at meadows library site, then we stick stickers to the spine above the call number. Then we put tape over it. Finally, on 12/15/06[…,]” in the “find” textbox, when you press CTRL+F. On 12/21/2006 we checked in books and filed the books away, along with biography books. For biographies file them in alphabetical order on who it is about, otherwise just look at the spine and file them numerically and the alphabetically. On January 5, 2007 we worked in the front office, counting papers and putting it in the teacher’s boxes so the students in their class can get it. We got a snack too. Finally, on January 9, 2007, I did book surgery. I took out paper covers stuck by tape to the book, removed the old plastic or paper, and put the barcode in-between on of the pages of the book and theme sticky-note on the hard book.
Today I did the same thing that I did acouple days ago.I got some books and updated them and to see see if the information was right about the book.I also had to make sure if there was a summery about the book and if the details were right. If it was right I then just had to go to update and pick the right genre of the book, then save it.That was all I had to do today.
This the end of the 1st semester and the 2nd quarter. Thank you for all of work that has been accomplished in Library Media Aide classes. Your grades are posted.
Today in the libary I cataloged some books but in a different way. Instead of looking them up I just put in what categories the books are supposed to be in.
1/16/07
Yesterday, I did the same thing I did before.I took some books and scanned in the barcode and I made sure that the information about it was correct. For example, when I would scan it in, I would first have to go to title details and see if it had a summary about that book and if it said the right genre. Then if all of that was ok, I would then have to go back to copies, and update it to the list gengre, type in follett and 6641,then finally save it.And that was it.
blog for 1/16/07
Today in media aid Elizabeh and I cut out book covers in lamination, then we folded the cover and put it on the book, finally we taped most of the covers!
-Jacqueline

In media, for the last 3 to 4 weeks I have been organizing magazines in the back room. First you have to put the magazines in order by month. Then you but them in alphabetical order.
Today in Media Aide Katie and I had a substitute teacher. The substitute was very nice!!!!!! In the back room katie and I put genre stickers on the appropriate books. Another great day in Media Aide.
Today in media aide we put tape over the spine lanles and genre lables on the books. We blooged because we had free time and we still had time to do what we wanted. Today was easy but it was nice ti have a break.
I have missed a lot of blogs most of the time we just did genre and spine lables and covering them with tape or finding genres, can I still get credit?
Yesterday in the library I kind of did the same thing as Jan. 16 but I forgot to write that I'm checking over what the 6th graders did and then putting in some subject titles if there aren't any. If there are then I just go to where it says "copies" and I edit and update the information.
1/18/07
In media aide I did the same thing I did before.I first scanned in the barcode to look up the book and fixed some of the books that we had troble with.I went to title details to see if all the information and summery was there.

On Tuesday in media, I was finishing putting away magazines that were lose. I've been doing this project I would say for about a month and only need one( hopefully) day to finish.
Today in Media Aide the Library was closed. We cleaned up the workroom in the office with bleach. It smelt bad, and the napkins picked up a lot of dirt. After that we did homework, I blogged this in Gross’s second computer.
-January 26, 2007
Today the media center was closed so I went to the office to first check what i was supposed to do but they didn't need any help. So I went to the nurses office and did some filing for her. And that was I did today.
In media, I finished organizing the magazines. Then, for the rest of the period, I put the clear cover stuff on the cover of books.
Today we reshelved the books in the ficton section. We used the hand scan to check in all the books the 5th graders are using for the animal reports.
We put genre lables on the books. for the two blogs I missed.
Also for today I forgot to put that we had extra time because there was not much to do so we blogged and had free time.
Today Media Aide was pretty fun. Katie and I checked in books. There was a 5th grade class in the library today working on their animal reports! We also used the hand scan. Katie and I also call it a mini Smart bord, because it has internet. And, to use it all you need to do is tuch the screen. We also reshelved some books, about 12 books. I havent said this in a while but it was another great day in Media Aide
Today in Media Aide Katee and I serched for particular genres for the appropriate book.

I am writing in this post for 8 blogs! 2 of these days I was on a field trip. One was on January 18, 2007, for my English class the entire 7th grade went to see a play of Romeo and Juliet. The other was on February 1, 2007 a trip to the movies as peer tutors to watch Chalets’ Web.
Romeo and Juliet is about these two teenagers, Romeo and Juliet, who have parents that hate each other. Romeo met Juliet in dance wearing a mask. They feel in love at first sight and Romeo completely forgot his previous admiration. But, in an outbreak between the families Romeo killed Tibilt, her cousin, and was sent out of the city. This was just after they got married, and the preacher thought that having them married will end all violence between the two families. Juliet’s parents think that the main cause of her unhappiness is Tibilt’s death, but it was really her unknown husband’s expulsion. Her parents decided to have her married to Paris, but she took a solution given by the preacher making her appear dead at the day of her second marriage. However, Romeo coming back to town by order of the preacher, but didn’t get the message about the scheme. He went to her open casket and fought with Paris who believed he was the cause of Juliet’s “death,” but he losses, and Romeo dies by taking poison from sorrow. Then, Juliet wakes and sees him dead and stabs herself. There parents finally learning what had happened decide to make peace. In the play an alarm went off and the actors improvised by ignoring it, making a joke out of it, “I guess that wasn’t important,” but this caused trouble in the next scene in which some actors were late and forgot their lines. They stuck with the Elizabethton language and ended the scene at last.
On my second trip I went to see Chalets’ Web. It is about this girl who saves a piglet from being butchered by her dad. As it grows to be a pig it was sent to live in her uncle’s barn, where it learns about pork and meets a friend Chalet. Chalet and the other animals in the barn are coming up with words that Chalet will weed in her web to show that the fattest or most profitable pig isn’t always the best one. But, at the end even though the pig will not ever get butchered Chalet dies after laying her eggs. The pig will make friends with 3 of them to which he will share all his adventures.
One of my working days, was January 22, 2007. I was laminating paper backs. I described how to do this on 12/05/2006. To get there fast you can go to it quickly by pressing Ctrl+F and typing this quote which I have in that blog, “let the book cover fall gently onto the sticky laminated exposed side, and press firmly. Make sure there are no air bubbles. The strips of lamination sticking out of the”
On January 30, 2007, I started by working on overdue notices while my peers were writing on them if necessary. When they were done, I sorted some amount of notices, and as they were putting them in the teacher’s boxes I will continually give them new notices. This system made us finish fast and we worked on laminating book covers. We finished that too and spent the rest of the period pasting barcodes.
On February 5, 2007 I checked in 5th grade biology and astronomy books with a hand held computer which Roof to forever to get programmed :) It is just like a barcode scanner attached to the wireless network and not directly to a computer. Then I was making barcodes.
I also made barcodes yesterday; to do this you make lists and running reports for new barcodes. It is very simple really; Mrs. Roof will take you to a place (Back Office or Circulation), and, after emptying the list, I will scan or type in the barcodes of the books. Some will have numbers like 300000000064521, in which case you must type in only 64521- I did something similar on January 16&24, 2007(This paragraph is for these days too.) and printed the barcodes just before leaving.(On the 16 I started by pasting and taping genre and spine stickers before making lists and running reports on barcodes.) As for yesterday, myself and my peers were able to paste and tape over them too. As I was printing the barcodes and scanning new books for new lists, my peers were pasting them on the book and taping over it to secure it. Then I started helping them put barcodes on books, and finally, ended up putting barcodes on books and having my peers taping it.

Today in the library I cataloged the Harry Potter books and some other ones too. In this cataloging process I scan the barcode of the book and I then check to see if the category for it is checked off in the category section. After that, I type in the vendor area Follett and rifgt bellow it, I forget what it's called, I type in 6641 because that's the fund type I think. Next when I finish cataloging a bunch of books, I put them back on the shelf where they belong. I consider this to be actually fun.
Today in the library I filed the back the books that were cataloged in the R's and the S's section. Mrs. Roof and I found two books that had the wrong label. That was all I did in the class period.

I did over dues, and on the over dues I put please pay or return, parent signature. Also, most of my days in media for the past couple of weeks, I've been putting labels on books and sticking tape on top of the labels. Finally, on Friday in medis, we had a sub, Ms. Goldwater. I read and talk to Ms. Dewben.

PS have fun over spring break!!:)
Today in media aide we shelved all the books and then we blogged and after that we will be going to the pep rally.:-)
Today, I am blogging for 14 days! I would like to take a moment to thank Mrs. Roof for accepting all my blogs, which most of them is, technically, was late. I would also like take a moment to apologize to the students who have responsibly blogged every day. I really wanted to have this blog in essay format but that is really hard to do in blog site. Some of the new and uncommon things that happened in these 14 days were: a children’s book illustrator visit; stamping ownerships stamps; a week of when I was sick, in which I missed two classes; and subject area look-up of new books. Something that happened over the last 14 blogs which doesn’t happen every day was that an illustrator came to our school to talk with us what his job is. He draws by taking photographs of models and then draws it into his children’s books. He says the main lesson he wants to teach is have big dreams and never give up. In the next class, which was on Wednesday, February 28, 2007, I got to do something I didn’t do in the two semesters I was here. I along with my peers checked out books for a 6th grade class. Since 3 people are not needed to check out books, I went to the back to stamp books. You just stamp a stamp which tells the book belongs to Madison Meadows Middle School. A stamp goes in the inside of the cover, the title page, and in the bottom of page – 37 I think. The last thing that was unusual – hopefully never to happen again – thing that happened in the past 14 blogs was that I was sick for a week. I missed two classes and therefore describing my sickness will count for two blogs. When I visited the doctor Tuesday, March 6, 2007 I already had taken and Advil fever reducer, and been running fever for 4 days. I was spiting out yellow flum, had a bad cough, dripping nose, and was sneezing for 4 days too. It was clear when coming there that I had a bad viral infection, but what virus it was is still unclear. I believe I had this viral infection for a long time though. I had similar symptoms and a fever for 1 day in a weekend of February, and 3 days during Christmas break. I think it just retreated to a latent stage until I got three vaccination shots on Wednesday, February 28, 2007. The vaccine put my immune system to work, giving the virus enough time to incubate and cause a bad blow. That’s my theory. The last new thing that happened in the last 14 blogs happened on Tuesday, March 14, 2007. I first had to move chairs and tables to there original position. I really don’t know why they were to the side. After we did that we went on the computer to research book topics. Mrs. Roof gave us a list of books she bought, and I have to research how many books she has on that particular topic. I write how many books of that topic she has on the margin. This will help her make future decisions on what books she should buy. Now, there is ten blogs to go, but many of the activities being done in these 10 blogs; I have done before in my two semesters here. Almost every day we check in books, but I have never described how to do it. You check the bin in which all returning books go in. You scan the book(s) into the computer, saying they have been checked in. You then take the book(s) to a yellow box, which magnetizes the book. You then check to see if the book is alarm sensitive by actually testing it in the sensors which is used to catch students who steal books. Then you file the book away. This was just about all I did on Friday, March 2, 2007. Sometimes, however, there will be more books than just the ones checked out optionally by students. Sometimes an entire class will check out books for a research project, then when they check it back in it will stay in a tray, usually close to the reference section. In this case I go with a hand held computer which Mrs. Roof has connected to the library network. She has to log me in to the check in section, and then she gives the computer to me. I then go to the tray and push two yellow buttons which are in the side of the, small 6 inch by 1inch, black computer, which will send the red scanning lazar. You then scan over the barcodes of all the books. This is what I did on Thursday, February 15, 2007. I just don’t scan books to keep track of what books are coming in, going out, and by whom, but I also scan books in the bake office computer to make new barcodes and spine stickers. Mrs. Roof does most of the computer work; I just scan the books. I did this on Friday, February 2, 2007. Once the books needing new barcodes and spine labels are in the computer we just have to stick them on the book. If you are replacing an old barcode or spine label you just stick the new sticker on top of it. If you are sticking it on a new book barcodes go on the top left hand and spine stickers goes on the bottom of the spine of the book. Sometimes some books in the library and new books would need genre stickers. These stickers go on the spine above the spine label. All this information: the book’s call number, what should the spine label read, and what genre stickers the book should get: is on a sticky note on the cover of the book. Once all the stickers have been pasted on the book, duct tape must be put on top of the stickers to secure it. Mrs. Roof once asked me to put security strips on the new books, but I will like to keep the process a secret for security reasons. This is what I have been doing on the following days: Wednesday, February 7, 2007; Monday, March 12, 2007; and Friday, March 16, 2007. I also did this for half a day on Tuesday, February 13, 2007. When I was not pasting stickers on February 13, I was laminating book covers. I think I described this very well in one of my previous blogs for November 29, 2007. To get to my blog, so you can read how you laminate books, fast you can go to it quickly by pressing Ctrl+F and typing this quote which I have in that blog, “This is when things get interesting. The books which I catalogued and put into the system know were now getting laminated covers. To do this you first, get a length of lamination covers.” I also laminated on Thursday, February 22, 2007. This was right after my peers finished filling two magazines and I shelved checked out books. The last day I am blogging for is Tuesday, February 20, 2007. That day I was delivering overdue notices to the teachers’ boxes. I would like Mrs. Roof to know that Mr. P, my homeroom teacher, and Ms. Bentzel, my former homeroom teacher, are both getting overdue notices for me. Please correct this technical error. That day there was a presentation happening outside so I brought the paper cutter inside the back office. I was cutting the overdue notices that my peers have finished marking if the book(s) have been late for more than a month. After I finished cutting some amount of notices I started organizing them by teacher. When I finished I cut some more notices that have been marked, and organized them by teacher. When my peers finished marking notices, they started delivering notices by teacher into the teachers’ boxes in the teachers’ resource room. I was simultaneously still sorting some notices by teacher. I finished sorting in time to help my peers deliver the last two sets of notices. These are the blogs for last 14 days I had media aid, and I again thank Ms. Roof for accepting all my late and long blogs.
~ Friday, March 23, 2007
On Thursday, before spring break, I cataloged books the whole time. Then, on March 26, 2007, I had a list of books that I needed to see if they were in the library. You do this by going to catalog and typing in the title of the book, and then click "Title" to see if there are any copies of the book.
Today in Media Aide katie and I put clear sticky covering over new books so that they could be preserved.
Today in class we covered paperback books I did two and Savannah did two then we got to blog.
Today in media aide, I checked in over 40 books with Maggie. Then we scanned them, and see if they beeped when they went by the machine. Then we had to file them all away. After this, we updated the magazines. We put them into the new cases on display afterward. It was so much fun.
Today in media I checked in a lot of book with Erin. Then we checked to see if they beeped when you were trying to go out. Then we updated the magazines. After that we put the new magazines in then magazine cases. It was fun! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
March 26, 2007
Today in media aid, I started by magnatizing a couple books. Then, I made a powerpoint for the lunch menu in April. Then, I typed in birthdays for April, too. Next, I helped put tape on barcodes and spine labels. Then the bell rang and we had to go.
-Jacqueline!:)
Today in media aide we checked in 4 books and ten scanned them and put them through the beeper to see if they beeped. Then we filed away all of the fiction books on the cart, then when we were done we got to blog which I am doing right now!
When I first stepped into the Library, I picked up the books from the check in roll-basket. There were four books, so I checked in 2, and my fellow media aide, Maggie also did 2. Then Maggie, Hara, and I went into the fiction section of the library and placed all the books that were in the cart, back onto the shelves. Then Mrs. Roof let us blog the last twenty minutes of class. It was very fun.
Today, I am blogging for 2 blogs. I am hoping in getting into the habit of doing this every day, instead of turning in blogs for 11 days, 14 days, etc. On Tuesday, March 27, 2007 I scanned a load of books. After scanning, magnetizing, checking to see if it will set off the alarm, and filing them away; I updated the magazines. I filed away old magazines that weren’t filed away when being updated last month, and then helped my peers make this month’s update, who by now, however, had already checked them in on the note cards. I filed only one or two magazines before I took the old magazines created on this update, and started filing them away. When filing was done I would have blogged, but only 7 minutes remained so I just hanged around. Today, on Thursday, March 29, 2007, I checked in books as usual, but they weren’t that many books. After scanning, magnetizing, and checking to see if it will set off the alarm; I was about to file them away the checked in fiction books, while my peers did the non-fiction. The cart was gone from its original spot of being sort of a continuation of the Abb – Chr shelf. I learned then that we had to file all the fiction books in the cart. After that, I wrote this blog which you are reading right now. I plan to now take notes from my memory on what dad said about Subbas Chandra Bose. He is my pick for my research topic for Mr. Meyer’s and Mrs. Borkowski’s class. He was the leader of the Indian National Army that fought for the freedom of British colonies in Asia, most specifically India. This was happening during WW2 so he got a lot of support from the Germans and Japanese.
~March 29, 2007
On March 27, 2007, in media I put labels on the spine and front of books. Then, Ms. Wiens class came in to check out historical fiction books. Also, I checked in some books. To check in books, you magnatize the book, check to see if the alarm goes off, and then put the book on the cart so it can be put away.
Also, I've been cataloging on and off this week.
March 29, 2007
Last time in media aide, I first started by checking to see if books beeped. Then, I put spine labels on the spines of books.

Today in the media center, I first taped posters to book holders to make them stand. After that, I checked in a lot of books, then magnitized them, and ran them through the alarm sistem to see if the went off. Then after that I put them back to the shelves and then went on the computer to blog.
Ms.Roof I was sick for all of your classes the week of Monday-Friday of March 26th.
Today in Media Aide Katie finally showed up!!!! Katie and I put on tape over the barcodes and the genre labels. We had a half hour left so Mrs. Roof let us blog. :-)
Today in media aide I cut tape and Savannah put it onh the barcodes and spine lables then we blogged.
April 4, 2007
Today, I beeped a few books. Then, you let us have free time!!:)
Thenk You! Thank You!! Thank You!!!
-Jacqueline
In media I checked tons of books in. To check books in , you must scan the book in, magnatize the book, check to see if the alarm goes off, and put on chart. Then I checked books out for a sixth grade class. Also, I put stickers on a couple of books while I was waiting for students to check books out.
In the last two classes we did a lot of filing away books. On Monday, April 2, 2007 I filed away non-fiction, reference, and teacher resource books. Today, April 4, 2007 I filed away biography, non-fiction, and fiction books. To file a book away you just put it on the shelf in which it is in numerical order and then alphabetically. On Monday, April 2, 2007 it didn’t take all the period to file away those books. So, the rest of the day we did overdue notices. I started by printing and cutting out the notes. Then, my peers highlight very late books. I grouped all the slips by homeroom teachers, and we put them in their mail box. Their mailboxes are next to the library. There is a door to get there and it is labeled “Teachers Research Room.”
~April 4, 2007
P.S. It is a lot easier to write a blog weekly than monthly.
Today in media aide I did the power point on the computer. I did the birthdays and lunch menus for next week.
On Thursday in media, I stapled "Book Fair Buzz's" to "Mead O-Grams." This is all I did in media for that day. Also, the "Book Fair Buzz" is about what new books will be at the book fair this school year.
April 9, 2007
Today in media aide I beeped in some books in the magnatizer beeping thing!:) Then you let us have free time!:)
-Jacqueline
Today in media aide, I checked in only three books. Then I put away about five in the reference section. Since we had a sub, she didn’t have anything else planned so we got to blog the rest of the time. Plus, we have had AIMS this week, so I only have had media aide today.
I am suppose to go to media aid three times this week, but today is the only day I went, because of AIMES testing. It is very different here for example: it is four days long with 3-4 hour sessions, instead of two days long with full day sessions. This is very student friendly, because my head won’t hurt by the end of the day. Today we just checked-in books, and filed them with some other non-fiction books. After that I did some of my work which includes writing this blog.
~ April 13, 2007
I'm blogging for three days. Last Thursday, I had a Ms. Goldwater as a sub, we did nothing because AIMS testing was going on. Then, on Monday I helped set up the book fair by bringing down the heavy books from the top of the book holders. Then, I opened up the book holders so people could see all the books for sale. Also, I set up the "cool stuff" on the counter.
On Wednesday I helpled out with the book, fixed the cash register, and learned how to use the cash register. To use the cash register, you type in the amount the buyer gave you. then, you press "-" and subtract the total cost of the items. Lastly, you press "subtotal" and then "cash."
today in meadia aides we put away books and we then taped a lot of books' spines'. and now we are the computers blogging.
I am blogging for three days. On two of the days, April 17 and April 23, I did overdue notices. These days it was a fairly disorganized timed process. However, the overall process is the same. Maggie, Erin, and I started by printing and cutting out the notes. If there is an overdue book before April then we write a note saying they must return their book. We then grouped all the slips by homeroom teachers and put them in their mail box. Their mailboxes are next to the library. To enter you go through a door labeled “Teachers Research Room.” There are so many overdue notices, some dating back to August, that I think we should find ways of chasing them down, because it is so close to the end of the school year. On the other day April 19, Maggie, Erin, and I were cashiers at the book fair. I had the job of finding the total cost of a buyer’s purchase(s). I then ask if they want to donate their change to the World Wildlife Fund.

Today in media aide i started of by checking in a lot of books. I magnitized them and put stripes in a few of them. After that I filed away a tone of books which is exactly what I did when both of the subs were here.
